SpitalFields

An area originally settled by French Protestant silk weavers and tradesmen called Huguenots who fled religious persecution in France in the 17th century. Even early in the 1800s the area is already getting run down as more and more people move in with no job to sustain them. A Roman burial ground lies under the streets that run thick with filth. There is a famous Church, Christ’s Church Spitalfield, that resides here. It sits upon catacombs and tunnels that wind down into the earth. No one knows how deep.
