The Harbinger and the Fountain
Concessions allow you to basically give in to any given action to which you will take severe consequences or, possibly, even die. This is a narrative item to allow for good storytelling. By Conceding a conflict you bow out. Your opponent gets what they want, narratively (they escape with the Star Gem, they manage to initiate the Death Engines buried under the Tower of London, etc.). In addition, you have to have a “clear and decisive disadvantage”. If Yada had chosen to Concede the conflict during his turn (as he did), he would have paid a fate point for every consequence that he had (he had 1, Splitting Headache from using his sight). Since he had no Fate points, he would have simply conceded. We, as a group, determine what happens to Yada. I would have put forth that the blow from the “woman” cleaved his staff in two with a great discharge of mostly harmless energy. Yada is knocked unconscious and the enemies leave. If you Concede on your turn you are paid a fate point per consequence that you have. This is another way to gather Fate points even when things are not going well.
